The A78 coast road is the main route in and out, running south towards West Kilbride and the Three Towns, and north towards Skelmorlie and Greenock. The A760 climbs inland over to Kilbirnie and the Garnock Valley.
Both roads matter for different reasons. The A78 along the shore is busy, particularly in summer, and there's very little room to pull over in places — the sea is on one side and a wall is often on the other. The A760 over the hill is exposed and it's the first road round here to get properly bad in winter.
