Broken Down on the M77?

Broken down on the M77? Get yourself safe first, then call and we'll get an operator to the vehicle.

If you're on a live carriageway

  1. Get the vehicle as far left as you can and put your hazards on.
  2. Leave by the left-hand doors and get behind the barrier, away from traffic.
  3. Do not attempt repairs at the roadside on a fast road.
  4. Call us — and if you are in immediate danger, call 999 first.

The M77 runs from the south side of Glasgow down to Kilmarnock, where it feeds into the A77. It's the commuter route, and it's fast.

A motorway breakdown is not like any other. The traffic is doing seventy, it's dense, and drivers are not expecting a stationary vehicle. The single most important thing is to get yourself and your passengers away from the car and behind the barrier — not sitting in it, and not standing beside it.

If you can reach the hard shoulder, do. Pull as far left as you can, wheels turned to the left, hazards on. Get everyone out through the left-hand doors. Get up the bank and behind the barrier. Leave any animals in the car.

If you cannot get off the carriageway and you're stuck in a live lane, do not get out into moving traffic. Keep your seatbelt on, hazards on, and call 999 immediately.

Once you're safe, call us and we'll get an operator out to the vehicle.
